There is something like 'Classical Turkish Music'.
This means there was also a court life in the Ottoman Empire for centuries.
There was a difference between 'high' and 'popular' culture, like almost everywhere in the world. But european modernization (not the american) has always stressed 'the popular', 'the folk' music by foreign cultures and 'the high' culture of his own. Very clever indeed. So we don t know a 'Jodeln' from Austria but 'Für Elise' von Beethoven... Or 'Die Zauberflöte' (Magical Flut) of Mozart. But 'das Volk' I mean the normal people in the country didn t listen to operas. (also in Austria) There can be exceptions and I mean ofcourse not the contemporary time. But the time which operas were only for the rich people.
The link I give is a commercial link and has a popular version of this classical Turkish Music.
The differences in social structures between east and west are also given in the music structures.
