Yes, there is an animal problem in Istanbul. I couldn t forget the cat I have seen recently. She (or he) doesn t have ears, she was crying in pain... It was really terrible, I didn t know what to do. I still feel myself guilty for just looking on the cat, but I didn t know what do do. I don t think that there is a hotline in Istanbul megavillage for tortured animals...This is not the first time that I have seen tortured animals in Istanbul streets. And there is a book for the cats of Istanbul, i can t understand the mentality here. I mean there are people who think that is not a problem just the life without civilization... In most of the times the cats or other animals have the same facial expression like homo sapiens here...Actually human beings are also animals, no doubt but....something is wrong about this facial expression: 'Do you have sth to eat for me?''
'Do you have money for me?' 'What are you? Can I get sth of you or you are strong enough to defend yourself?' This is the facial expression in most of the cases here...
The image above is from Osman Hamdi Bey (1842-1910), a well known painter as there are not so much from that time... I don t know the exact time of the image, but the dog lying on the ground is typical for me for Istanbul...It hasnt changed much unfortunately...I mean the attitude towards animals.
